A Message from Bill Eisenrich, NYBC President
This CD contains new resources which can help create the wide curb lanes, bike lanes, paved shoulders, intersection improvements, sidewalks and paths we need on our roads and streets. I want to make it clear that NYBC advocates for a complete infrastructure for walking and bicycling. We have to move beyond traditional boundaries of 'effective cycling' and 'bike path' advocacy and develop a fully integrated infrastructure which includes the right balance of on road and trail facilities. The resources included on this CD can help you and your communities make these choices. NYBC has worked with GTSC, AAA, 3M Corporation, the Federal Highway Administration and Jeff Olson--Trailblazer develop the content of this program. On this CD you will find a series of four Powerpoint files which you can use in presentations to your bike club, community organization or business. An electronic copy of the new NYBC report "Improving Bicycling and Pedestrian Safety' is provided, and I encourage you to use this document and it's 'Citizen's Site Portrait' template to identify and improve traffic safety. There are also digital photo and video files taken during NYBC's recent field visits to Rochester, Albany, Long Island and Brooklyn. These can be imported into documents and projects you are working on--just remember to give credit to the appropriate sources. In addition, this CD also includes files provided by AAA on Traffic Calming, 3M on Signage and Pavement Markings, FHWA on Innovative Pedestrian Signals and PBCAT Crash Typing Software. These tools of the trade will help advocates and professionals work together to make New York a great state for bicycling and walking. Thank you for efforts--please visit www.NYBC.net for additional resources, membership applications and updates on Improving Bicycling and Pedestrian Safety in New York State. |
